About San Miguel Web Design and Development

Why I Do This Work

I started building web sites for friends and family in 1998. At the time, I was motivated by my love and enthusiasm for working with computers and the internet. Although I was only able to intuit a glimpse of where electronic communications were heading, I knew they would change the world and I wanted to be involved.

As the years progressed, I began making sites semi-professionally on my own and learning from a senior web developer nights and weekends. While I developed my skills, I worked for several companies whose web sites I created and managed.

In the fall of 2008, I founded Wilkinson Electronic Publishing. I built my business by knocking on doors and attending every chamber of commerce and networking event I could find.

I met a lot of fascinating people in my travels, many of whom are now my clients. They're what this is really all about for me. I love opening up the web for people, helping them see their businesses in a new light and facilitating their success.

Why Electronic Publishing?

As much as I love the web and technology in general, I value tradition more so. I feel a kinship with the people who have illuminated manuscripts, stained their fingers with ink and set movable type by hand.

Furthermore, presenting myself as a Web Designer or even more trendily as a Web Developer does not adequately convey the spirit of what I do.

Publishing speaks to the ideas that excite me as well as my goals and ambitions.

What Do I Bring to the Table?

In a word, tenacity. While starting any business would have been tough in 2008, it was especially difficult launching a company whose focus was building web sites. Budgets were tight or non-existent and many people already knew or had a "web guy".

I persevered because I believe in the virtues of entrepreneurship. I could see that despite the difficulties of the time, smart business people were still succeeding by moving forward and trying new things.
